Melissa is a 2023 graduate from Illinois State University, where she earned her Master's in Social Work. Melissa is an EMDR Trained Therapist and she (and several clinician’s at Life Balance) just completed Carol Sheet’s Early Recovery Couples Empathy Model (ERCEM) training to help Sex Addicts develop empathy for their betrayed spouses.
She began her career six years ago at the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery at Proctor Hospital, working with individuals with addictions. She has garnered experience with diverse populations in the Peoria area, including those experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and individuals in medication-assisted treatment for recovery from substance use. Furthermore, Melissa understands the challenges faced by loved ones of those struggling with addiction-related issues. She is well-equipped to provide education and support for them as well.
Melissa wholeheartedly believes in the life-changing power of the therapeutic relationship. Using a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Humanistic approaches, she endeavors to establish a safe, non-judgmental environment for exploration, growth, and progress towards a more fulfilling life. Melissa will guide clients in developing healthy boundaries, enhancing communication and coping skills, creating relapse prevention plans, and navigating challenging emotions. Her aim is to help individuals set and achieve goals centered on experiencing serenity, relief, and leading a life of integrity.
