About Rick

Rick Radford is a Licensed Social Worker who specializes in trauma-informed care, addiction recovery, anxiety, depression, and the mental health concerns affecting military service members, veterans, and first responders. As a retired Army veteran with more than 20 years of active-duty service, Rick brings a rare combination of lived experience and professional clinical training to his work — meeting clients where they are as they navigate trauma, stress, addiction, and major life transitions.

In session, Rick draws on a range of trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches, including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Problem-Solving Therapy (PST), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based strategies, strengths-based approaches, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). He uses these tools to help clients process trauma, manage anxiety and depression, improve emotional regulation, strengthen coping skills, and build lasting resilience.

A Focus on Those Who Serve

Rick has a particular passion for working with veterans, first responders, and individuals struggling with trauma, PTSD, addiction, anxiety, and depression. He understands firsthand how overwhelming memories, hypervigilance, emotional isolation, shame, and unhealthy coping strategies can quietly take a toll on daily life and relationships. His goal is to create a supportive, honest, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout the healing process.

Qualifications and Experience

Rick earned his Master's degree in Integrative Social Work and Military Populations from the University of Southern California. Before transitioning into the mental health field, he served more than 20 years in the United States Army, including extensive leadership roles and more than eight years in military recruiting and talent acquisition. That background gives him a unique, ground-level understanding of operational stress, transition challenges, trauma exposure, resilience, and the demands placed on service members and their families.

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Rick now lives in Dunlap, Illinois with his wife, son, and two poodles. A Christian who values faith, family, service, and personal growth, Rick spends his free time vegetable gardening, fishing, cycling, watching and playing sports, and enjoying quality time with his family.
